Assessment
- All of our appointments include a complete oral assessment and review of medical and dental histories.
Scaling
- “the removal of calcareous deposits from the teeth using suitable instruments”
- Scaling is recommended at different intervals depending on the amount of calculus and plaque deposits that you accumulate over a period of time. Scaling the deposits above and below the gum line is directly related to the prevention of gingivitis and periodontitis. Every individual will accumulate different amounts of plaque and calculus, and therefore some may require having more frequent dental scalings (cleanings) depending on the condition of the mouth. Teeth cleaning can be performed using a variety of different techniques such as hand scalers, a cavitron or graphite scalers for those with sensitive teeth.
Polishing
- Tooth polishing is the mechanical removal of bacterial plaque and extrinsic stain from tooth surfaces and restorations. It is a finishing procedure designed to make a tooth free of plaque and stain. A rubber cup is used with a fine grit prophy-paste for the procedure.
Fluoride Treatment
- The fluoride treatment assists in strengthening and remineralizing the tooth enamel for individuals with risks of, or history of caries (“cavities”). The fluoride treatment is available in a foam-tray technique or a rinse.
Desensitizing
- Desensitizing agents are used to reduce thermal sensitivity, before and after prophylaxis, before and after bleaching and on exposed root surfaces.
- Desensitization can be preformed by your Dental Hygienist, as they are qualified to apply a desensitizing agent to the tooth surface that will block the exposed root surface and reduce sensitivity to cold, water and air.
Sealants
- Sealants are a clear, acrylic-like material that bonds with the tooth to help shield out decay-causing bacteria from the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. They are a safe, painless, low cost way to protect your children’s teeth from decay. There is no freezing required for this treatment and Dental Hygienists are qualified to perform this procedure.
